It’s the Most Magical Time of the Year: Coachella 2011
Of course I live for Coachella fashion.
I have been searching everywhere for a pair of books like Nicole’s above. Am now convinced I also need a pair of oversized round sunnies.
You know, I feel as though L-A would argue that many of the styles coming out of Coachella could be likened to the wardrobe of one Carrie Bradshaw. Meaning, you might like the fashion, but you would never be caught dead wearing it in Halifax. I would actually wear the outfit Alessandra wears above. I may not achieve the supermodel result, but I would go down trying.

Oh, Hello. Is that a tutu-jean skirt? My 21 year old self would have loved that. My 32 year old self cries in jealously.
Ok – this is from 2010, but I think L-A would agree that the saddle shoes can stick around for the rest of 2011. In fact, I could see my co-blogger in crime wearing this very outfit whilst parading the streets of sunny California (as she does each year around Christmas time).
L-A: Hells yes on the saddle shoes! They are staying in style until I can afford a pair of those bad boys.
Coachella is a funny time of year for me. Partly because my parents live in the Coachella Valley, probably a half hour’s drive from the Polo Grounds in Indio. And usually a few of my favourite bands play at Coachella. So all the talk of a great lineup makes me jealous and the talk of how awesome Coachella is makes me a little homesick for my pretend hometown.
But then I get emails like this from Net-a-Porter and I shudder:
The subject of the email was “how to master festival chic”. Alternatively, it could have been titled, “how to dress like Ally and her heroes.” The look is all about piling whatever on, making sure it’s short and possibly wearing ugly shoes like a suede peep-toe bootie sandal. I hope they’re kidding about the peep toe bootie. Partly because I hope the bootie itself is a joke and because I hope that they don’t really think anyone would wear suede booties out in the desert where it’ll probably get up to about 30 degrees Celsius today.
I think I get annoyed by all the fashion bloggers who do get to go to Coachella and that makes me jealous and ranty that they’re there and I’m here with a cold. However, I do agree with Lauren, Dita von Teese does Coachella like a pro:
I’m assuming she won’t be sitting on the ground in that outfit. In which case, I would totally love an outfit like that. Maybe not those sandals, but I’d totally wear it to sweat it out to Arcade Fire. (Do the celebrities actually go for the music?)
Maybe next year I’ll report from the festival.
