On the 12th Day of Laziness, Our Intern said to Meeeeee….

December 20, 2010

Ally: For Christmas I want to give blog birth to more incredible interns like Krista. You’re in for a treat this Monday with her Christmas wish list. L-A is off in California drinking with the Kardashians. Or something. My wish list coming to you on Wednesday (fingers crossed).

Krista: Merry Intern KristaMas!
I am a through-and-through Child of the 80s, so the greatest Christmas tragedy, in my opinion, is Chrissy Snow’s birthday coinciding with Christmas. This is important, because I was also an only child and spent most of my early years with the Three’s Company gang instead of a large number of family members like everyone else.

Man, how awesome was Three’s Company? In the 1980s, I felt about John Ritter the same way I feel about Jon Hamm today. Dizzy.
In the spirit of lightening the load for Ally and L-A, your humble Intern will present her wishlist for Christmas 2010:

1. Avant Garde bracelet
True story. Every year, for Christmas and birthday, I buy myself a nice piece of jewelery. Last year, everything came from Avant Garde, an incredibly cool line that’s carried locally at Fireworks (, 1569 Barrington Street in Halifax. The designs are fashion-forward, but wearable for a city like Halifax. Furthermore, the bracelets are mostly cuffs, ideal if you spend all day slaving over a hot keyboard. This one is on the shortlist and could very well make the cut:

2)      2. More seasons of Party Down
Party Down ( is the greatest show no one watched, after Arrested Development. Cater-waiter/wannabe actors working at different functions in each episode. Comedy GOLD. This wish is the least likely to come true, as Adam Scott has moved on to Parks and Recreation (another show I love, so I can’t be too upset), and Jane Lynch, of course, has finally gotten her due on that show about singing nerds.

3)      3. House hippo
I’ve wanted a house hippo for years. They’re quiet, neat, and we eat the same diet. Why aren’t our best science people working on this?

4)      4. Trip to Giraffe Manor or Aviarios Sloth Orphange
While house hippos are my favourite domestic animals, giraffes are my favourite large animals. Imagine my glee (the feeling, not the show) when I discovered there’s a hotel in Kenya with a herd of giraffes. Breakfast included! With giraffes!

Prices for Giraffe Manor ( are not actually posted, so it’s probably one of those “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it” situations. If Giraffe Manor is beyond your gift budget for me, I’d also accept a trip to volunteer at the Aviarios Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica ( Take a moment to meet the sloths ( and then tell me you wouldn’t join me in a heartbeat.

5)     5.3” of height
I’m 5’3” and I’ve always thought everything would be different if I was 5’6”. Permanently, not shoe-ly.
6)     6.  Apothic Red wine
This wine is so good, it hurts. If you are of legal drinking age, run to select outlets of our friendly Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation and stock up immediately* before it’s too late and gone forever and you hate yourself for missing it. $17ish (

*Enjoy responsibly. Don’t you dare think about drinking and driving. I will find you and you will not like what happens when I do.
7)      7. DVF Pencil Skirt
In my opinion, this skirt is perfect in every way. At a cool USD$245, it’s downright affordable (just go with it). If I had this skirt, I could chuck the other six black skirts in my closet. So, that’s good for the environment.

8)      8. Jon Hamm
This one is so obvious, I shouldn’t have to put it on a list. But I have. So here we are.

9)      9. World peace
Fingers crossed for 2011. Either that or maybe we’ll get this pop culture podcast off the ground. Either/or.
If you’ve made it this far, my gratitude is boundless. Thank you for reading and supporting the all of the great work being done here at FPQT. All the best for a wonderful holiday and a completely marvelous 2011. That’s right, we’re going to make “marvelous” happen again in 2011. Krisp out.

Haven’t commented in forever (sorry!!), but I’m coming out of my silence to give a sounding HECK YES to the Party Down wish. While a bit vulgar at times (maybe that’s just by my standards though), it’s pretty darn hilarious. And as a huge Veronica Mars fan, it was great seeing lots of the alum pop up.

I recall being devastated when I learned house hippos weren’t real. 10 year old me (or however old I was) is still a bit crushed.

    Happy Christmas guys!

      Merry Christmas to you!

I’m wishing for more Party Down as well. I love that show so hard (Adam Scott + my love of all things Veronica Mars and creators of VM). I will settle for Adam Scott on Parks & Rec.

Definitely agreeing on the Jon Hamm wish. My friends were in Kenya last year and visited the Giraffe Manor. They didn’t stay the night because, like you said, it’s dollar dollar bills but for your next worldly adventure you should do a tour in Kenya that stops there. Just sayin’.

I totally approve on the Jon Hamm. I also love the confusion that Jon Hamm causes for some people in NS. More than once, usually from The Husband, I’ve gotten confused looks over why anyone would be crushing on the former premier.

You know, NS John Hamm *never* occurs to me. I must have blocked those years.

me neither. When The Husband is all confused, I’m like, “what other Jon Hamm could I possibly be talking about?”
