Favourite Friday – the November 26th Reader Sourced Edition

November 26, 2010

L-A:  Ally and I have both been having one of those weeks/months where getting our act together blogwise is a monumental task. We still love it, but it always has to come second to babies and other deadlines. I know. Bring it up with Hugh, the clients, and my profs. So, when I realized it was time for a favourite Friday, all I could think was, “I can sleep in until 8am on Saturday!”, which is an incredibly lame favourite.  Fortunately, my mind was blown when I found Girl Talk today:

Right. I know Girl Talk isn’t actuall new. I’ve heard of Girl Talk, but I’ve never heard any Girl Talk. And that’s just silly…because I am digging it so hard right now. It is like music made for Ally and I. Girl Talk mashes up my geeky favourites with Ke$ha and Gaga. Mind. Is. Blown.  The only question I have is: what the hell took me so long?

Of course, seeing more of our Win What You Wish photo shoot is also a favourite:

Big ups to photographer Chris Geworsky for making us look good. He was a regular Nigel Barker.

Other favourite thing: The Husband had a birthday this week, so, hooray for him!

Not so much a favourite this week: ANTM giving me a frigging recap of the season. I was promised Vogue EE-tahl-ee-ah cover shoots and Cavalli runways. Tyra Banks owes me an hour of my life.

Since I’ve been living in a bit of a cave these days, I asked readers to tell me what their favourites of the week are. Y’all didn’t disappoint. Here they are:

Jill loves: David Sedaris in Halifax, the Pop Culture Happy Hour (I kind of want to do one of these – maybe we can talk to CKDU), and Chapters.ca (possibly because she got to see David Sedaris at Chapters…her, Anthony and Intern Krista are all lucky bitches for getting to go while I was stuck at home with a speech).

Elaine loves the BCBG top she found at a consignment store. The top is “Hot Mama” level awesome.

Joyce loves her new purse and so do old men in rural Cape Breton (go figure!):

Melanie loves these boots, that are possibly like an arctic Day-to-Night Barbie:

Gillian’s favourite thing is getting ready for the Halifax Crafters (I am with her on that. I’ve got an office full of monkeys).

Allison’s favourite thing are tall grey suede Hush Puppies boots from John David. Her not so favourite thing? Buying ice cream, getting it home, and then finding out someone had already eaten some of it. Like, ate it at the store. Ewwwww.

and finally, Amy is excited about the LouMac Jewellery & Crafts Holiday Launch that’s happening at the Granite Brewery tonight. I hadn’t heard about this  – can someone fill me in?

Ally: Worked late last night, so didn’t have time to add to this. Thanks for helping out Twitter Peeps! xoxo

I will volunteer to be the intern/contributor to Pop Culture Happy Hour. I would finally have a useful outlet my reams of knowledge about garbage tv and celebrity culture.

Thanks for the mention, ladies (I’m all “SQUEE!”) I plan on wearing the BCBG top at my girlfriend’s Christmas wine and cheese in a few weeks, an annual tradition of alcohol-soaked goodness. I’ll send a photo soon! It’s nice to find stuff that still makes you feel hot and stylish, even if you’re a tired 37-year-old mama of two.

And I hear you on the busy thing. I can’t wait to get the next two weeks over with so I can get back to spending my spare time blogging, instead of working on part-time schoolwork.

It just occurred to me that we could do a podcast and see what happens. People who live in their Mom’s basements do them, why couldn’t we?

I have no idea how to make a podcast, but I bet we could figure it out.

I love the out-takes! So fun. You guys are awesome.
BTW, I was at Chapters until 11:00 pm getting my stack of books signed by David Sedaris. Brutal but at least he was lovely and he told me the raunchiest jokes.

Seriously ladies, I’ve got this podcast business basically worked out in my head. Things like:

-having a warm-up round of drinks, then recording in a real bar for authentic Happy Hour noise
-“Who did what now?” Roundtable where each contributor introduces the biggest pop culture “news” of the week
-Shameful pleasures – the things you shouldn’t like, but do
-“I read this, so you don’t have to” – tabloid feature, like Jezebel’s Midweek Madness
-Defending the famous – a point-counterpoint debating the merits of someone’s fame or notoriety
-Heroes and villians – winners and loser’s in pop culture
-Kan Kon for Kool Kids: humourouly begrudging Canadian reference
-Painting word pictures – awesome ridiculous descriptions of outfits worn to public events, preferably by someone known
-Lighting round – I don’t know what this involves, but I love lightning rounds.

I’m starting to like this podcast idea as well. You’re earning your keep as an Intern! Apparently podcasts are quite easy to do and can be done using Skype. I’ll pick the brain of The Husband some more and see what we can do.

I was hoping to expand my media empire in 2011, this may be just the ticket.
