September Issues

August 4, 2010

L-A: I’m not exactly ready for fall. I’m still enjoying sunshine and lemonade and BBQs. However, my mailbox tells me that autumn is going to happen whether I like it or not. That’s right, a September issue (of Fashion) was in my mailbox today.

last month's cover of Fashion

It’s boots and tweeds and chunky knits.  And not summer at all.

I should be excited. I really should. But I’m not yet ready for fall.

Having said all that, give me a week and I’ll be telling you all about how much I love this coat and those boots.  I will say that on first glance, fall 2010 looks like my kind of fall. Here are my current September issues: oxfords were still listed as a trend (yesss! I can justify owning more oxfords); I don’t love wedge boots, but I might like shearling; maybe this is the year I finally learn to wear eyeliner; I love chunky cable knits, but I may need mine to be a little less bulky; I enjoy a trench coat and a coat with a flared skirty bit; I wish I could wear camel coloured coats, but I think I probably cannot (it’s a colour that usually washes me out).

You know what I’m thinking we should do this fall? Have a magazine book club. We’ll have drinks and talk about our favourite parts of a magazine from that month. Maybe we’ll even dig up magazines from the past. Why should book readers have all the fun? (kidding…I read magazines and books).  And what better month to start than September? There isn’t one. September has always been my favourite. The magazines are huge and full of stuff to talk about. Even before the documentary, we all knew September was the big one.

p.s. No Ally today. First day of running your own business and first day of daycare for BabyG take a toll on a girl. But you might get a chance to see her out and about on Friday: we’re planning on going to the AGNS Young Patrons Circle launch. Anyone else planning on attending?

Ally: L-A is right. First day on the job and my internet went down tonight. Sucky. So, I’m just catching up on work now and will have my addition to this entry later in the morning. I do have my September issue of Vogue and it’s DELIGHTFUL. Details in the morning.

Update: (Ally) – I lied, I do NOT have the September issue of Vogue. I have the August Issue with Gwyn Paltrow. It is still delightful. I also lied when I said I would update later this morning. This is a promise I just cannot keep. I”ll be back on Friday when things slow down a bit.

L-A: ooh! this means most folk shouldn’t have their September issue of Vogue, so we can play my game: Guess Who Will Be on the Cover! [insert game show music]

I read online who it is *supposed* to be, but I don’t want to ruin it for people. I’m lukewarm on the covergirl.

My guess is January Jones. Who knows though? Now I want to go Google it and cheat.

I just googled it. Ewwwww. Does not want.

I guess she’s better than Blake Lively. Not an inspiring September cover though. Then again, neither was Sienna Miller (and this is when Ally dies a little inside).

My favorite part of the documentary was when Grace Coddington (the true star of the film!) complains about Sienna Miller.

January Jones would have been good. Or Christina Hendricks, since I’m a Joan fan.
