Big Day Downtown Launch Party

July 28, 2010

Last night, we attended the Big Day Downtown launch party at Pipa on Argyle Street (excellent food and sangria!). The launch was in celebration of Downtown Halifax Business Commission’s new campaign created in collaboration with Extreme Group, which will see 30 bloggers from Halifax receive $100 to spend any way they wish in the downtown core. It’s an incredible idea, and the party was a great way to meet some of the bloggers we adore.

Our blog was selected as one of the two to profile for the launch. Spider Video followed us on our day to spend Ally’s $100 (It was like we were on The Hills! L-A also gets cash money, and we will document both trips separately).  Our only rules are:

  1. Spend it downtown (easy!) and spend it this month (also easy – we probably could have spent mine last night).
  2. Keep it legal (sorry, no coke and whores).
  3. Write about it.

The video was shown at the event and sadly, we were asked to speak. Sadly, because people had to endure two minutes of Ally’s cringe worthy ramblings. She wasn’t even drinking. To help ease the pain, here are some photos from the launch. Ally’s wearing her new romper purchased at Biscuit on her Big Day Downtown.

An artsy shot of the two of us…

L-A is looking at Ally being all, “you should probably stop talking. Immediately. As in now.” Or maybe she’s re-thinking her hate on for rompers, because Ally looked pretty hot in her romper and booties from Biscuit.

Possibly our favourite person ever. The adorable Ben. He’ll hate Ally for using this photo. He can get back at her by doing an imitation of her “public speaking”.

(Editors Note: Updated image more accurately reflects Ben’s true appearance.)

Ivy and Paul from Downtown Halifax Business Commission.

Ivy’s new shoes purchased in London. Note that she was not wearing these all evening. They came out to party when a camera was around. Evidence? I took a shot of her and Paul’s shoes only moments earlier.

Paul tells us that Milwaukee is a shoe lovers paradise. He purchased his classic brown babies during a conference trip.

Jill! She is adorable and we love her. We’re looking forward to doing the Dress Like Glee challenge with her and Ben (and some other fine folks from around town). L-A has been suggesting that Jill use her $100 to buy an Emma Pillsbury-inspired outfit.

Lynds from LouLouBell. Ally purchase one of her headbands from Boutique Joliette while on her Big Day Downtown. It will be featured in a post coming soon.

The always adorable Heidi P. of Shop Halifax.  Love this woman. We could be more eloquent about why Heidi is amazing, but we won’t. We just love her to pieces.

Martin chatting with the ladies (L-A and the amazing twitter phenomenon that is Lauren Oostveen, who blogs for herself and for Spacing Atlantic).

Fellow Haligonia blogger, Kristen from With Bite, who used her $100 on food and booze and learned how to be friends with oysters (why aren’t we food bloggers? Her video looked tasty). If we weren’t married, we would totally date this girl. She knows how to dine. She also knows how to speak in public while looking pretty. Lessons we can learn. Lessons we can learn.

There were other bloggers out (oh, about 24 others), but pictures of them all would make for one epic post. We promise to upload all the pics to our Facebook page. Let’s just say that this city has some amazing bloggers and we can’t wait to see what they buy. And FYI: you can win your own $100 shopping spree downtown. Check out DHBC’s site for details.

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you ladies at the launch last night. I thought your video was fabulous! :) I’m a huge fan of the site, particularly the Monday Shoe Porn!

I’ll find the freeze frame that was up on the screen for our video last evening and send it to you. You can put it up on your blog. Worst. Photo.of.me.Ever.

You’re gorgeous. I just had to make sure people knew I was prettier. That’s your lesson for today.

Fair deal. Although I’m pretty much just saying that now that you added a photo with my better angle.

You guys did an awesome job on the vid and the speech! Thanks so much for coming (even though you totally busted me on the shoes). It was a great party and I felt the blogger love all around… Now, I hope everyone gets planning their Big Day Downtown!
