Golden Globes. Who killed it and who bit it hard.

January 18, 2010

AllyG: Ooh! A special additional post today! For those who missed it, L-A and I live “tweeted” the Golden Globes red carpet. It included some incredible insight such as ” bedazzled porcupines. that is what is on Drew’s dress” and ” had a sexytime dream about Billy Bush once. Sadly, it was good” You can guess who said what!

For the “bit it hard” category:

Why a pale redhead would choose a nude/light pink ruffled prom dress is beyond me. I’m not dissing pale redheads, I’m as pale as they come and dye my hair strawberry blonde, also I heart Anne of Green Gables. It’s just so completely wrong on Nicole. What is with ruffles these days anyway? WHO BROUGHT BACK RUFFLES? Unless we are talking chips (and even then you better be bringing the dip as well) I don’t want to hear the word ruffles. Everah.

Who killed it:

Emily Blunt is ridiculously beautiful. Always has been. But…is it just me or does she look better since giving Michael Buble the ol’ heave ho? Now, my friends, Emily here can wear a light pink/nude colour. That is because her SKIN IS NOT LIGHT PINK. The colour, fit and matching accessories makes this my fave of the night.

L-A is “working” so she may not be able to provide her fave/worst outfit of the evening until later. Until then, discuss amongst yourselves!

Ally xo

L-A: I’ll weigh in on who bit it. Because that one is easy. I didn’t really love love LOVE anything last night, so that needs some thought.  I’m surprised Ally chose Nicole as worst. Worst dress/worst nude dress went to Drew:

The source of my picture described Drew as “the 34-year-old actress knocked it out of the fashion ball park in an Atelier Versace champagne silk gown”. Which I agree with,  if by “knocked it out of the park” they mean, wore an ugly dress.  Descriptions of whatever is on her hip and shoulder included, “hedgehog”, “sea creature”, “tribble”, caterpiller,” and “bedazzled porcupine” (okay, last two are totally me…but all are totally fitting). Edit! Added to the list of descriptions of Drew’s dress:  nude Christmas tinsel squirrel hybrid.  Yeah. That’s why her dress bit it the hardest.

So I’ll admit that I didn’t actually watch the Golden Globes — awards shows always make me squirm — but I do love checking out all the gowns the next day.

I will agree 100% that Drew B’s dress was a disaster — it looks like she’s been attacked by some rare fungus. Yuck.

And while I agree that Emily Blunt’s gown was lovely, I have to point out the discrepancy between her facial tone and her body colour. I thought it might just be the pic that you posted so I Googled up some other images of it and they’re all the same:

Her face looks a pale-ish pink (pretty much matching her dress to a T) while her body (including those gorgeous arms — where can I get a pair??) has a more California sun-kissed glow to it (like I would expect Jennifer Aniston to sport).

Am I the only one who sees this?? (If you want to get the full effect, just cover her upper body with your fingers and see how much her face matches the colour of her dress…then take your fingers away and notice the glaring (at least to me) difference between her face and body!)

(Now, I should add that I love Emily Blunt so it’s not like I’m someone who’s just trying to call her down.)

I just took a second look at the Emily Blunt pic and you are so right. Her face doesn’t match her body. She’s a pretty girl, but either she sucks at putting her own makeup on or she needs to get a new makeup artist (I never know if celebs actually do their own makeup. They either look like it’s done professionally or they’re on the cover of the National Enquirer with the headline, “Stars Without Makeup!”).

I would say that Chloe “I’m being smothered by ruffles” Sevigny bit it hard in the fashion etiquette/graciousness category – complaining about the rain ruining her dress and then shrieking about the poor guy who accidentally stepped on her ruffled train(wreck). She then bitched about it again during a backstage interview. Less ruffle, more class, please.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with you on Emily Blunt’s face. It’s like they pasted Robert Cullen’s head on J-Lo’s body. (I can’t believe I just referenced Twilight).

How did I miss your reference to Twilight? Please tell me you are a twihard!!

Ummmm… not really… Sorry, Ally… I can appreciate the first film but the second one really blew. Once tried to read the first book for a short-lived book club (i.e. I quit it), though, but I got distracted by shiny things. If it’s any consolation, I do have cougar-like leanings towards Robert Pattinson.
