Why the ladies love Louboutin

May 12, 2009

AllyG: I feel that with every blog post I am further reducing myself to a cliche. This will only get worse with this post. Ready? One of my life goals is to own a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes (his website is one of the best I’ve seen btw). I don’t want a pair because all of the “it” girls own them. I want a pair because of what they would signify to me, what they would represent. To me, the day I purchase a pair of Louboutin’s will be the day I reward myself for accomplishing something great. I’m not sure what that is yet, but I am sure I’ll know it when it comes.

The other reason I want a pair of these shoes so badly is because I adore the designer himself. He’s just so quirky in an extremely appealing way. He’s the type of person that you could kill an afternoon with sipping martinis on Argyle St. quietly judging people walking by. Fun, non?

When that success does come my way, I’ll be walking out the door in one of these babies…

Can  you even breathe?

The flower pump is by far my latest favorite. The $1,695 price tag is even more breath taking than the shoe itself. This frilled number is for the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection this Spring. One day, I tell you. One day.

Flare Magazine had a great article on Louboutin in their May 2009 issue. In the article written by Bernadette Morra (lucky, lucky woman), Louboutin states, “I don’t think women only wear high heels for men. They do it for themselves. It changes the way you walk, the way you approach the world. The speed is different, the way you move is different. It’s a totally different world.”

Le sigh.

L-A: Hello! belated update to this post by me! I’m seriously in love with that flowered shoe.  Don’t tell my husband, but I think I want to marry it.  I love just about everything he does (there are, of course, some exceptions). His website includes a sections called “total madness”, which I appreciate. It’s clear the man loves shoes and loves women.  I agree with his thoughts on why women wear heels. What he says is true. You do move differently, you think about your body differently, and you are loving your outfit and how you look so much that you needed to complete it with a pair of shoes you love.

Also, I love his signature red sole. It’s a way of shouting, “I own Louboutins! I am classy and awesome and can afford to own shoes that cost about as much as two months rent for a two bedroom apartment in Halifax!”, but in a subtle, classy sort of way.

haha, now that I continued reading I realize you want a pair…. not already own a pair that we haven’t seen. Those flower pumps are gorgeous! Have you seen the new Tiffanys key necklaces? They are my latest “want”.

I just can’t get behind gladiator shoes in any way. The red sole, however, is amazing.

These are the Louboutins I covet:

I actually know someone who just bought a pair of his shoes for her wedding. The selling feature? They can be dyed afterwards and it’s included with the purchase price. She lives in London. I hate London. No, I don’t. Damn.
